I reduce the body to light and shadow, and let the light decide what remains. What emerges is not always a familiar form, and that is where the art of humanity and sexuality lives.

A single nude figure lying face down across the frame, lit from above so only the upper surfaces catch the light. The back curves away from the viewer, one arm folded beneath the head, the hip rising into the brightest part of the frame and the leg extending off to the right. Everything below the lit contour falls into black, so the body reads as an unbroken ridge of light against darkness

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jason Stadtlander is a photographer and novelist based on the North Shore of Massachusetts. His photographs have been exhibited in New York, Massachusetts, California, and Arizona, including group exhibitions at Viridian Artists in New York and the Rockport Art Association & Museum. A solo exhibition, Held Within, opens at the King Hooper Mansion, Marblehead, in January 2027.

He is a published novelist, author of three books, and has written for The Huffington Post and Practical Parenting, among other publications. He is a member of the Marblehead Arts Association and the Rockport Art Association, and has worked with the human figure for nearly twenty years, as both photographer and model.
